Hungarian roots at Sieberthof

Savaria brings a different breeding tradition to our herd, distinct from the major German warmblood lines. Born on 20 April 2018, the chestnut mare belongs to the Hungarian Kisbéri félvér breed, the Kisber Halfbred. Her sire is Szikrázó Maxim and her dam Formás Fitos by 2945 Formás II-2. Her pedigree brings together two traditional Hungarian stallion lines.

Szikrázó Maxim and his sporting family

Savaria's sire Szikrázó Maxim competed in show jumping up to 1.30 metres with Péter Dobi. He completed his stallion test in Nyíregyháza in 2007 with 339.5 points, including 50 for loose jumping. The Hungarian breeding association lists him under stallion number 4790.

One generation further back stands Szikrázó, Savaria's paternal grandsire. With József Varró he won the Hungarian Show Jumping Championship and multiple team championships. The association also records successful appearances at international military championships. Through Maxim VII, Dunure and Fenék VI-5, the maternal side of Szikrázó Maxim preserves further old Kisber lines.

A breed with a long riding horse tradition

The history of the Kisber Halfbred began with the foundation of Kisber Stud in 1853. English Thoroughbred stallions were mated with selected mares of different backgrounds, aiming to produce a refined, capable riding horse. Furioso-North-Star and Trakehner influences were among those added later.

An earlier cross-country test for young mares is particularly noteworthy: obstacles and a set optimum time were intended to demonstrate the practical qualities of breeding mares. Sport became more central after military use declined. Founded in 1989, the breeding association is dedicated to preserving this traditional breed. At Sieberthof, Savaria therefore represents a distinctive piece of European horse breeding history.
